CARL ZEISS JENA DELFORT 18 X 50 BINOCULARS W/ORIGINAL STRAP ATTACHED. SERIAL NUMBER: 1226910. MADE BETWEEN 1919 - 1930. INCLUDES ORIGINAL LEATHER CASE AND STRAP. BINOCULARS ARE 11 1/2" IN LENGTH AND 5 1/4 AT THE WIDEST. THESE BELONGED TO MY FATHER. ALTHOUGH LENSES ARE A BIT CLOUDY AND MAY NEED CLEANING INSIDE, WE ARE ABLE TO FOCUS THEM PRETTY WELL. ONE LENSE HAS A SMALL SCRATCH NEAR THE OUTER EDGE. METAL SURFACES & LEATHER OF CASE SHOW SOME AGING.
Dr Carl Friedrich Zeiss (b.1816 d.1888) founded and opened the Zeiss company at Jena Germany in 1846. In 1894 Zeiss began the mass production of prism binoculars. By 1900 Zeiss binoculars were employing over 1000 workers. Zeiss continued production during WW1 and WW11. The famous 'Carl Zeiss Jena' Logo was used from c.1904 until the reunification of Germany c.1991.
Carl Zeiss Jena binoculars were one of the first quality binoculars on the market. At the time that they were invented, the Carl Zeiss Jena binocular was the top of the line in optical devices. HIGHLY COLLECTABLE & EXTREMELY RARE !
