Vintage Bench-top Autoclave
Up for auction is a *Vintage* Castle Bench-top Autoclave Sterilizer Model 999C in decent used cosmetic condition. The body of the unit has several scratches and dings on it due to rough normal use. The inside of the unit appears to fairly well kept and shows no signs of rust or oxidation. Unfortunately, the water level indicator tube on the side of the unit has been broken and needs to be replaced. The front control panel has a few rust spots on it but the controls themselves seem to be in good condition. Please refer to the provided pictures for details.
We powered on the unit and refilled the autoclave with water. We then adjusted the sequence selector to "On Standby and Vent", turned the regulator knob to the left, and turned the timer to 15 minutes in order to start the initial setup of the unit. The autoclave started to heat up successfully but would not pressurize the chamber. As we were testing the unit, water started leaking from the water level indicator tube. This might be the reason that the chamber would not pressurize. The tube needs to be replaced before proper use can occur. We then changed the sequence selector to the autoclave function and the unit started to hiss. We assume that the autoclave was trying to produce steam but, due to the leak, was unable to do so. We continued to allow the unit to heat up to around 130 degrees Celsius and then we turn off the unit, so it appears that the items heater is functioning correctly.
This particular model has power requirements of 115 volts, 12.6 amps, and basic 50/60 Hz. Included in this purchase is an attached 3-prong NEMA 5/15 power cord. The cord is frayed a little at the case but can easily be repaired by covering it with electrical tape or by replacing the cord altogether. Other than powering on the unit and letting it heat up, no further testing could be done to the unit. Due to the nature of the unit and our inability to fully test it, we must sell this item as is and as described.
We thank you for your consideration and wish you a happy bidding.
