Vintage Alice in Wonderland doll, which was probably originally a marionette. I've owned her at least 10 years--purchased from a Maine Antiques/Doll Dealer.
Alice has been known to hang out on the Amish Horse's back, lounge on the couch, sit on a shelf...she just drapes herself gracefully everywhere. I do not know how old she is, but I think she is from the 1940s...just guessing. As you can easily see in the enlarged photos...her face paint in crackling. This is just as I purchased her, and the condition seems very stable. Her hair is thick embroidery thread. Body is cotton. Hands are metal. Clothing is sweet....old handkerchief petticoat, lace trimmed. Blue dress is silk crepe, apron is organdy. Striped stockings & leather shoes permanently in place.
I think she is quite special. She's obviously a survivor. Wouldn't she be great is a shadowbox frame?
Questions always welcome.
I will add more photos tomorrow,
The couch is offered in a separate auction.
