This is a very nice old compact. It was probably made sometime in the 1920s. The top is covered with 21 jewels and pearls. They are all there and are in excellent condition. The stones are probably from Czechoslovakia as they have that look. The piece stands 1/4" high and measures 1 5/8" in diameter. The inside powder holder has a cover that spins around. The cover has a round opening and a space with 9 small holes that match up to a hole underneath in another metal plate. The top cover spins without any problems. However it does have what appears to be cleaning marks. These are on the surface and not scratches in the metal. The mirror is cloudy and spotty. The piece opens by lifting with your fingernail. It has a very tight fit when pushed closed. There is about a 1/16" space between the lid and the bottom. This doesn't hurt the piece as it still closes very tightly and is not that obvious. The hinge is also in good working order. There were no other problems with the piece that I could find. There are no markings to indicate the maker or country of origin. It is a great piece and would make a wonderful addition to someone's compact collection. 4437F4107
