Vintage Compass Slide Rule 1321 Original Leather Case
You are bidding on a Compass Slide Rule. This slide rule is very nice and in excellent condition. It is a ten-inch rule and comes in its original brown leather, flip-top case. The front scales are L, LL1, DF [CF, CIF, CI, C] D, LL3, and LL2. The back scales are LL0, LL00, A [B, K, CI, C] D, S, ST, and T. This slide rule was made in Japan, and has a frameless cursor. It is white laminate on bamboo. The color is brilliant white and is in excellent condition. The leather case was also made in Japan, and has a few minor rubs and creases at the hinge points, but is in otherwise excellent condition.
Throughout the Renaissance, many attempts were made to develop a universal instrument that could be used to perform arithmetical calculation and geometric operations easily. This need was felt especially in the military field, where the technology of firearms called for increasingly precise mathematical knowledge. Those early attempts evolved into the “modern-day” slide rule. With the advent of the calculator, these relics have become collector’s items. This slide rule is in excellent condition and would be a great addition to any collection.
