Really Badly Damaged Composition Head Baby Doll
Description: This is one ugly baby! An inexpensive doll when new, and probably worth even less 80 years later! Typical 1920s 'dime store' baby doll has a composition shoulderhead, cloth body and composition arms pin-jointed to the cloth body. Intaglio eyes and closed mouth. Head and shoulderplate are unmarked ... she could be American but there's something about the pin-jointed arms that makes me think she's more likely from Germany. At any rate, this sad doll is definitely a challenge for a talented doll restorer. As you can see in the photos, she is BAD. Hole at the top of her head, lots of cracking, lots of paint and composition flaking ... and something that is not evident by the photos is she has that nasty, stale smell of having been stored in an attic for about a zillion years. In the past when I got a doll this bad, I'd sell her to a neighboring artist who specialized in 'constructed collage sculptures' who would use trash and abandoned, damaged toys in her sculptures. Very unsettling and creepy artwork and this doll would have fit right in. Unfortunately my neighbor moved away ... or fortunately if you want to take on restoring one of the worst dolls I have in inventory!
Dimensions: Doll measures 18" tall.
Condition: Bad. Scary bad. Really bad. Really REALLY bad. I mean, not good. Cloth body is OK though with no rips (although it's badly discolored). Compo arms are probably usable; lots of paint wear on them but unlike the head there are no actual cracks or gaping holes on the arms.
