Large vintage Cross hanging candle holder Orthodox Church?

An unusual brass item, clearly of Religious origins. A jointed cross with three hanging hooks, a three dimensional central medallion and a small candle holder at each end of the cross bar of the cross? An angel armed with a spear and raised sword is atop the piece. The cross is hinged in no less than 5 places? This would look fantastic fitted with candles and I can assume this was hung in an open space in order for the candles to burn safely (If simply hung from a wall the candles would be right up against the wall?

I would love to know anything at all about the origins, function and age of this interesting piece, made of brass with copper hand hammered rivets. Can anyone explain what hung from the hooks, or if something was placed within the central medallion? Is this Russian or some other Orthodox early Church fixture?

Very solidly made and so in very good condition as shown. A large item 27 inches (69cm long) width 15 inches (38cm) Potentially quite old?
