I bought this guitar in 2004 and was told that in was a 1962. I never really believed that so I recently had Gruhn Guitars appraise it. In case you don't know, Walter Gruhn is the Holy Grail on guitars. Here is his appraisal.

The guitar described below is, in our opinion, an Epiphone model 6730 made in Japan in the year 1971.

Description: Serial number 106230.  We have been provided the following description: “Blue Label Reads Epiphone 6730 NO. 106230. In 2004 Had Neck Reset with upper bout repair. Had custom ebony saddle installed. 

Based upon examination of the attached photos this guitar appears to be in fine condition.  It conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period in which it was made, with dreadnought size body, laminated spruce top, laminated mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck, Indian rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, unbound peghead with Epiphone logo, three-on-a-strip tuners, bolt-on neck construction with no heel, and white binding on the top and back edges of the body.  Epiphone guitars made prior to 1970 were manufactured in the USA; however Epiphones made from 1970 onward are imports.

So now that I know the facts, I am thinning my herd and letting this beautiful instrument go. Hate to see it go but hate to see it ignored as well. As stated above, it did have a neck reset and repair to the upper bout. Now the action is very low and plays like butter..... Beautiful deep resonate tone and depth. Deep bass. I had my luthier install a hand crafted ebony saddle to replace the inferior one that was there.  There is some crazing, dents and dings from use, but nothing major for a nearly 40 year old instrument. Please review all photos carefully as I have tried to capture most. No case but guitar will be carefully packed for shipping.
