Offered for auction: A lovely bowl, luncheon plate, 2 small plates, and a matching saucer from Hotta Yu Shoten & Co., Japan (Nichi Hon Nippon), likely made in the 1920s-30s (company closed in 1947).
All five pieces are in very good condition, with no damage or flaws that I can find (other than bumps original to manufacture). The bowl measures 5 inches wide at the rim and 2.75 inches high. The luncheon plate is 8.25 inches wide. The saucer is 5-5/8 inches wide (and fits the bowl nicely as an underplate), and the small dessert plates are 6 inches wide. The hand-painted designs are intense and very solid., especially in the orange-red borders and red and blue flowers.
All the pieces are marked in red with "Hand Painted / Japan," and a cherry blossom logo in the 5-M shape with "H" in the center. The gotheborg.com site on Asian marks dates this as likely from the 1920s-30s.
