The handpainting on this vintage Imari Japanese blue and white cup is beautifully intricate and artfully executed. There is a landscape scene and a Pagoda...priests out working in the garden? The cup is meant to hold the sauce for soba or noodles eaten in Japanese culture. It is unsigned but the Japanese gentleman it was purchased from put it's date somewhere between 1900-1940. There is a similar blue and white design on the inside bottom of cup which looks like clouds and vegetation. Beautiful example of blue and white Imari porcelain. No chips, cracks or hairlines. In wonderful shape.Perfect addition for the collector of soba-choko ware. |
