Here is an ornate vintage sword from the Lilley Ames Company of Columbus, Ohio. This is a ceremonial Masonic Knights Templar sword once owned by James Hurst Miller.
The pommel is a silver armored knight's head, the grip is black with a silver inlaid cross, the cross-guard is silver and on the rain guard has a red cross through a blue and silver band on a shield. There is a length of chain hanging from the front of the knight's face shield on the pommel.
The blade, on the rain guard side, is detailed with the cross, scrollwork, the cross on a banner, the cross through the crown, the Masonic compass symbol, "James Hurst Miller", the sun, a knight in armor with a shield holding a banner with the cross on it aloft, scrollwork, another knight in armor, and a skull and crossbones with "MEMENTO MORI".
The blade, on the side opposite the rain guard, is detailed with the cross, scrollwork, a diorama of knights in battle on a field, a king in chain mail holding a banner with a cross aloft, scrollwork, another knight in armor, yet another knight on horseback blowing a horn, a crown, and the Lilley Ames Co. of Columbus, Ohio, mark.
The leather piece just above the cross-guard is intact.
The scabbard is silver-plated and is detailed on one side with a tented shield featuring a red cross and the words "IN HOC SIGNO VINCES". On either side of this shield are two rings. Below the In Hoc Signo Vinces shield is another shield with scrollwork and one ring on the side. The chape features a knight in armor and a cross. The bands around the scabbard are edged with a greek key detail.
The sword appears to be in good condition, although it needs a good cleaning and polishing. No major flaws.
Sword in scabbard measures 40" long. Sword alone measures 38 3/4" long.
Pieces will be packaged carefully for safe transport. Package measures 49" x 8" x 7" and weighs five pounds, eight ounces.
A great find for the Masonic Sword collector!
