This auction is for two reproduction prints from the drawings submitted to the United States Patent office by Robert C. Danly and assigned to Ludwig & Ludwig of Chicago. Included are:

• The September 28, 1920 patent for the 'Pioneer' snare drum strainer
• The May 17, 1927 patent for Ludwig's classic tuning pin hooks

Robert Danly was married to Theo and Bill Ludwig's sister. After Theo died in the influenza epidemic of 1918, Danly left his day job at International Harvester to focus on the design and engineering of products for the growing Ludwig drum operation.

The careful observer will note that this strainer is the classic 'Professional' or  'Pioneer' design which was the first modern strainer design. It was widely copied by other manufacturers and is still used extensively today.

The 1927 tuning pin hook design is another Ludwig icon that was used for decades (check out Ringo's bass drum to see an example).

There are two separate patent drawings included in this auction and each will be provided on artist quality, acid-free, 60-pound parchment style paper as shown above.

Prints are 8.5" by 11.0" (21.6 by 27.9 cm) in size and are ready to frame for display. 

They are packaged in archive-safe, acid-free sleeves and shipped flat in a stiffened mailer to ensure safe arrival.
