A Little History about Physicians Optical Company
We are Family owned and Operated. I am the 4th generation in the optical industry. My Grandfather and Great Grandfather were M.D.s. My father, wife and I are Certified Opticians. My father started our business in 1950 when he bought out the American Optical (A/O) owned and operated shop in East St. Louis, IL. Before that he worked for Bausch & Lomb, B&L in St. Louis. By being around so long we have accumulated a huge collection of Vintage Eyewear both New and Used. I am always digging around in the store rooms and finding treasures. Also we are located close to Scott Air Force Base and have a large number of New and Used Military eyeglass frames. Put me on your favorite seller list because you never know what I will find next. We are running out of room so both the New and Old must go and I will get them listed as fast as time permits. Between the 3 of us we have over 100 years experience so you can buy with confidence.

** U.S Military Eyeglasses During WWII
At the beginning of WWII and before, servicemen were required to supply their own eyeglasses upon enlistment, and they should be made of sturdy constrution. At a latter date they would be supplied with replacements as needed.
Due to the large manpower needs during WWII, many did not have them or could not afford them so the US military started supplying them. The whole system was a mess till the end of the war. They expected 200,000 pair needed a year but made over 6,000,000 in 1943 alone. They did Standardize them with American Optical and Bausch & Lomb being the main suppliers. They could not keep up with demand and by the end of the war over 12 company's were being used. There was NOT one particular frame used but dozens, including many with fine filigree. The company's used off the shelf frames that anybody could buy. They used everything and the photos prove it.
The P-3 shape was standard and the most common. Silver was also standard but Gold was the most common, it also worked the best. 42 and 44mm lens sizes were normal and the standard. Having the bridge supported at 4 points was standard, but 2 point mountings were just as common. I will write a review on WWII glasses before the end of the year or when I get time.
Fine Print
This is as Fine as it gets!!!!
