This is a great
example of a vintage, German, Black Forest Cuckoo Clock with music in excellent condition. It
dates from around the 1960's.
This clock has a
cheerful little bird that cuckoos once on the half-hour and counts the
hours on the hour. It also chimes on a gong before each cuckoo. Every half-hour,
the bird pops out of its house, makes its famous cuckoo sound
while bobbing up and down, then returns to his house and slams the door!
Then, every half-hour, after the bird sings and shuts his door, music plays while the
band figures dance back and forth! The clock has two songs that
alternate every half-hour. I can't read the language on the label, but you
can see the names of the songs on the label in the pictures.
It also has a beautiful pendulum that swings back and
forth, marking the time. The 3 weights are heavy, and shaped like pinecones
– and make the clock run for a full day before you have to pull them back
up!
The case, dial, and movement are
in great condition and the clock runs and keeps good time. The handmade case
is made of wood in the style of a Swiss Chalet and is in great
condition with the original finish (a few minor touch-ups - see pics).
The dial is in mint condition with original numbers. The gong is original,
as is the entire clock. It includes the pendulum and three pinecone weights.
You can adjust
the time to slow and fast from the pendulum. The movement has just been
cleaned ultrasonically and oiled saving you money for this service for the next several years.
Here's a big plus...the bellows have just been recovered so
if you are familiar with cuckoo clocks you know this will keep them from
leaking for years to come. (See pictures).
The clock is 11 1/2 inches high not counting
its pendulum and weights, by 11 " wide and 6 1/4" deep.
