Gobelins are hand-embroidered tapestries, sewed with special threads by skilled craftsmen/craftswomen. Gobelins are usually inspired from famous paintings or religious art. A gobelin lasts depending on the quality of its threads. Good threads, like DMC, need some 200 years until its colors begin to fade. DMC is a famous old brand of French needlework threads used for various artwork, like gobelins. In gobelin making, Petit Point refers to one diagonal needlepoint stitch. There are two techniques used for stitching or sewing gobelins. Petit Point 1:1 is when each sign from the chart equals one stitch. Naturally, Petit Point 1:4 means that each sign would equal four stitches arranged in a square. Generally, gobelins done in PPT 1:1 would be more detailed and fine. Gobelin sewing is a highly crafty and hard creative activity that takes tons of patience, concentration and steady hand. Elegant and colorful expressions of cultural history! Gobelins are traditional stitched works of art with high collectible value and appreciation! This gobelin is of vintage origin and represents a rural nature scenery just before spring. Not sure what threads are used, however the colors are bright with slight fading (compared to the back side of the gobelin). The stitching work is of rather low quality with PPT 1:4. The overall condition of the tapestry is very good, the linen has ruff edges. The gobelin is sold without frame for shipping convenience! A beautiful threaded work of art for collections and theme displays! Linen height: 35cm/ 14 inches Linen width: 25cm/ 10 inches Image area height: 25cm/ 10 inches Image width: 19cm/ 7.8 inches ------
