B.Shoninger began making pianos in 1850! (see website: http://pages.cthome.net/hirsch/bshon.htm
This piano, (Shoninger # 16009) in my family since the 1950's, was my dad's who was a Concert Pianist and belonged to the American Guild of Organists. Being very particular about pianos (He refused to play most brands.), owning two Steinway Grands, he loved this piano!!!! …. for its tone and tuning. (For many years this piano was in a summer cottage, unheated during winter months, and my dad, who tuned his pianos with his own perfect pitch (& forks) marveled every Spring that the piano was barely out of tune and with a few tweaks, it was perfect again.)
Two years ago, I had the instrument completely restored with new tuning pegs, repaired hammers, cleaned and tuned by a very old, reputable family owned company. Several ivory keys that were damaged or missing were also replaced with old ivory to match. (cost $1200+)
Note in the pictures the engraved floral designs in the wood, the brass foot pedal plate, the lovely turned front legs, the easy access panel to the sound board, and the built in music rack which folds back when not in use.
It measures just over 5" long, 27" deep and 53" high. The outside finish is worn, but has a great patina of crackled black paint and evenly worn areas.
With this piano is a terrific adjustable stool (which I spent many hours spinning on in my youth). It has wonderful claw feet with glass balls. (The top of the stool base did crack and is reinforced with unnoticeable metal braces. As it bears no weight, it is not a problem at all.)
Shipping costs will be up to the winning bidder and depending on distance the cost will obviously vary. As with any upright, it is heavy! Piano movers are fast and professional and move them with ease. Moving companies also do great jobs. For a great shipping option I have found, you can email cathy @ freightncrate.com for info or an estimate door to door. She is really nice!
Addtional shipping message: After an inquiry to ship to Hong Kong, I have been given two approximate estimates which would include crating and water transport ranging from $1300-$1500. (4-6 wks) If you live closer, consider the differences.
Please feel free to email me with any questions. I will assist in any way I can.
