   This auction is for a vintage Niles Era Slingerland 4 piece shell pack drum set in fair condition. 3 ply shells with reinforcement hoops and internal dampeners on the batter side. This kit belonged to a school that had it as part of a large inventory of concert and marching percussion that were all finished in red sparkle, leading us to believe the wrap is probably original.

   This kit has some modifications over the years, including having had the original Set-O-Matic mounts removed and replaced with newer Ludwig L-Rod style tom brackets and bass drum mount. The original disappearing spurs have been removed and the shell was re-drilled for new collapsing spurs. The wrap is in good shape for its age and shows normal wear, including scuffs, scratches, fading, and some tom rash on top of the bass drum, but no tears or seam lift. The lugs, rods, and hoops are original, except for the batter hoop on the 12" tom, but are pretty pitted and rusting in places.

   If you are in the market for a museum piece, this probably isn't it, but if you want a great sounding vintage kit that's just a little TLC away from a great live or studio kit, then this one is for you.
