Bidding has ended on this item. Item:Vintage Striped Appalachian Splint Oak Buttocks Basket |
Up for auction is a vintage woven splint oak melon or buttocks basket made by a talented weaver from the Appalachian mountains of the Southern US. It is woven totally of splint oak, and it would have been intended for use as a berry basket or a small egg basket. The basket features a sturdy bentwood oak handle, a sturdy bentwood oak frame, and carefully constructed ribs forming the framework on the base and on the sides. Be sure to check out the well-crafted double rim construction, and also notice the nicely woven handle supports. And be sure to note the blue stripes added as accents. This beautiful vintage basket will make a great addition to someone's collection.
The basket, as noted, is a nice medium size, perfect for display, measuring an oval 8" x 6½" across at the rim, and 8" tall to the top of the handle. The basket is in very nice shape. I looked the basket over carefully and found a paint scuff on the handle, and the fact that the basket sits slightly off-kilter, but these are the basket's only exceptions. Otherwise, there are no broken or cracked splints or other damage. See photos, as they give a true picture of this basket's condition. A very nice basket for use or display.
Additional Notes: I will be happy to provide discounted shipping for multiple items. Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions, and please take a look at my other auctions I'm listing today to see some more great vintage baskets.
