Here’s a nice, vintage, 5-color sign I have never seen offered before on eBay. It is advertising “ For the most part, porcelain advertising signs were not being heavily produced by the mid 60s as plastic and tin became cheaper options. I am guessing this is the newest the piece is. The stair-stepped, diecut design and round-opposing-geometric shape is suggestive of the art-deco 30s.....although, given the character face and lettering font, tend to doubt it's quite that old. My best estimate is sometime from the 50s but I really don't know. There are only minute chips as seen under the “A” and “N” in the word “varnish” on one side and near the grommets and edge of each side. Please review the pictures carefully and you will see that one side overall, is near mint. The opposite side has some sort of stain that is limited to the upper portion of the sign in the red area. I am unsure if this can be removed. For approximately 25 years I have used the “No. 7 White Polishing Compound” to clean and shine my signs and have found it to be most excellent. I was unable to remove the staining with this product in this case….perhaps you have your own magic formula. I just hung that side against the wall and it never bothered me. Please ask any questions before you bid.
