Here's another wonderful piece of vintage jewelry from my mother's collection. This triple-strand sterling silver beaded necklace features hand-made fittings and clasp, and is strung on wire. It has resided in my mother's fulsome vintage jewelry collection for many years. It is marked on the back of the clasp (see photo#2)"Sterling. Mexico." Given the style and the handiwork, I am dating it Mid-Century, most likely the late 1950-60s, which is when my mother began collecting jewelry. I am selling it As is, because it appears to be missing beads on the ends of some of some of the strands. Although the missing beads do not show when you wear the necklace (see photo 1) this should be disclosed. Also, I recommend this necklace for a petite person (a 1950s size, that is). Given the condition, I have listed in low: a fabulous bargain for the right person - or a jeweler who can give it added length. This is the popular Mid-Century triple-strand version (see Mad Men for more examples). It measures approx. 7 3/4" long (the longest strand). The shortest strand is approx. 5 3/4" long. This fits me as a tight choker, but there is no reason the chain could not be lengthened at the clasp end. There are too many beads for me to count in this sitting- numerous, that's for sure, as you can see. We used to visit Taxco, as a family (see my other listings), and this probably came from one of those trips, given Taxco' sterling reputation, but it is marked Mexico, rather than Taxco. Thank you. |
