Vtg Sheffield Silverplate Dbl Lid Warmer, Pinecone Tops
This vintage silverplate warmer was purchased at Shreve Crump & Low in Boston in the 1950s to early 1960s. The story of America's oldest and finest jeweler began in 1796 when John McFarlane a watchmaker and renowned silversmith opened a workshop across the street from Paul Revere at Downtown Crossing. Throughout the 1800s the company grew in its prestige until a consolidation of firms created the name Shreve, Crump & Low in 1869. This prestigious store went on to serve Boston's high society from the Cabots to the Crowninshields to the Kennedys. It thrives to this day.
This warmer is obviously a quality piece. It features double silverplated lids that cover two separate glass serving dishes. The housing for warmers is built right into the overall piece for your candles or sterno. The beauty comes in the lid knobs, beautifully designed pinecones. Overall measurements are 11" long (excluding the handles), 7" tall excluding the knobs and almost 9" deep. It is marked The Sheffield Silver, Made in USA on the interior of the lid.
This was a piece that had been long neglected. It was an estate find and so dark and dull that we feared we could not bring it back near its original beauty. You can see how it responded to a little polish and elbow grease. We leave all finish polishing to the buyer but the heavy work has been done.
The original felt silver bags could be included should you wish. They do bear the name Shreve Crump & Low. Unfortunately, these bags are very faded and need to be washed. Please let us know if you would like them included.
We will be listing several silverplate items within the next few days including a matching lidded glass dish with silverplate lid and pinecone top. We will combine shipping whenever possible.
