It is a privilege to presented this PRISTINE W&R Carlton Ware Vase hand decorated with the Barge motif. The decoration on this genes bottle shaped vase is just superb; my humble photos can never do justice to this art work.

Barge pattern is one of Carlton Ware Chinoiserie school of patterns that where first introduced as far back as 1915. The Barge pattern is a water scene with water lilies, bridges, pagodas and barges all over a deep mottled blue ground which is verging on cobalt.

The inside of this outstanding vase is finished in a glorious mother of pearl lustre The pattern number“2519” is printed by hand on the base in black paint. It also has the black stamped Wiltshaw and Robison maker’s mark stamped in black ink under the glaze. This mark was in use from 1894 until 1927. The pattern number “2519” was introduced into service circa in 1921. This means we have a production window of from 1921 until 1927.

Dimensions

This delightful vase strides in at a very impressive 16.5 cm (6.25”) tall and it has a diameter across the shoulders at its broadest of 11 cm (4.25”).

Condition

It is in AS NEW condition; there are no chips, cracks or repairs and NO crazing. There is no wear to the magnificent navy blue lustre ground and NO wear to the hand painted motif. There is no wear to the gilding, which is in itself is unusual as the gilding is often worn. This beauty has lived the easy life of a cabinet dweller.

Everything about this vase shrieks quality, from the pattern to the shape and the vintage, this is an impressive piece of early twentieth century art from Carlton Ware’s glory days.
