W&R Carlton Ware Chinese Tea Garden Vase AS NEW #C1309

Presented here for consideration is a W&R Carlton Ware Vase hand decorated with the Chinese Tea Garden Motif on a mottled deep blue high gloss ground. Chinese Tea Garden is a very rare motif. The 3 scenes that make up this motif are identical to Chinaland, the difference is that with Chinaland they are hand painted under the glaze, where in Chinese Tea garden they are hand painted over the glaze.

One of the three scenes that is Chinese Tea Garden is this Pagoda which works so very well on this vase, it fills the image area nicely. The vase is further decorated with 3 cm wide gold freeze around the base rim which incorporates Azalea flowers. It has the black stamped W&R maker’s mark of the style that was in use from 1894 until 1927. It is very hard to make out the pattern number on the back of the plate but it does appear to be 2931. The pattern number 2936 was issued circa 1925 – this gives us a production window between 1920 and 1927.

• Dimensions

This delight stands a proud 15 cm (6”) and it has a diameter across the shoulders where it is at its broadest of 7.5 cm (3”).

• Condition

It is in AS NEW condition; with NO chips, cracks, stains or repairs and NO crazing. There is no wear to the gilding or to the hand applied enamel. This is exactly as it was when if came out of the shop when it was brand spanking new nigh on 90 years ago.
