WALTER STEVENS (Malines 1887-Wilrijk 1967) 

Peintre post-impressionniste de paysages fluviaux, vues urbaines et natures mortes. Aquafortiste. Etudie aux Académies de Malines (J.W. Rosier) et de Bruxelles (1905-07, I. Verheyden, J. Rousseau et C. Montald). Séjourne à Paris en 1923-24, où il rencontre e.a. Utrillo. Voyage à travers la France, l'Espagne, les Pays-Bas. Travaille en Bretagne et en Provence. L'Escaut et la Mer du Nord inspirent ses principales toiles et ses meilleures eaux-fortes. Le sujet devient plus vague, réduit à l'essentiel, et la palette est dominée par les tons de gris. Professeur à l'Académie d'Anvers. Rétrospective à la galerie C.A.W. à Anvers en 1967. Oeuvres au Musée d'Anvers.Source: Arto.

Laat-impressionistisch schilder van rivierlandschappen, stadsgezichten en stillevens. Etser. Opleiding aan de Academies van Mechelen (J.W. Rosier) en Brussel (1905-07, I. Verheyden, J. Rousseau en C. Montald). Verblijft in 1923-24 in Parijs en ontmoet er o.m. Utrillo. Doorreist Frankrijk, Spanje en Nederland. Werkt in Bretagne en de Provence. Vindt langs de Schelde en aan de Noordzee de inspiratie voor zijn belangrijkste doeken en zijn beste etsen. Het onderwerp vervaagt, de tekening wordt herleid tot de essentie en het palet wordt beheerst door grijzen. Leraar aan de Academie van Antwerpen. Werk in het Museum van Antwerpen.Bron: Arto.
