In 2003, Eric entered into an agreement with Washbrurn guitars to help create unique and custom guitar both in the USA and Import genres. Working closely with Washburn artists such as KISS legend Paul Stanley, Black Label Society guitarist Nick Catanese and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian to name a few, BSG carved out it's very special niche in the guitar marketplace. In 2007, Eric welcomed Bernie Rico Jr to the BSG family. Currently Eric & Bernie are diligently working on Rico Jr custom guitars with truly spectacular & unique specs and stylings. About this USA Custom "Padauk" BSG Idol #5: Just look at this guitar! This is an incredibly figured Padauk guitar. BSG's Eric McKenna commissioned 13 USA Custom Shop 'Padauk' Idol guitars. Initially, the guitars were going to be solid Padauk tonewood. Eric received two 'solid' Padauk guitars and while they are amazing - they both weigh well over 15 pounds and not very practical. Eric then worked with the USA Custom Shop to get deep carved Padauk tops matched up with chambered mahogany bodies and mahogany necks. Ebony fretboards were matched up with large blocks of Abalone.
The guitar was finished off with a custom Washburn & BSG Headstock font plate with Abalone and the BSG 'Brutus' logo in the headstock oval. The pickups are an EMG 85/81 combination and the Grover 'Keystone' tuners and TonePros bridge are done in black.
Eric handpicked the Padauk for this run of guitars during one of his regular visits to Washburn. However, there was one extremely figured Padauk blank which was used for the top of this #5 Padauk Idol. The pictures tell the story.
