This auction is for the exact item that you see in the pictures. It is a wooden statue of the Weeping Yogi, also known as the Weeping Monk, or the Weeping Buddha. It is carved from a solid block of suar wood, and finished with a special "antique bronze" finish. It was made entirely by hand in Bali. This sculpture is 6.75 inches tall. The symbolism behind the Weeping Yogi goes something like this: The world is full of both misery and joy, one cannot exist without the other. The Weeping Yogi is there to grieve for the sorrows of the world, so that you and I can rejoice in the beauty and wonder and joy that also abound in this life. He takes the burden of sorrow away from us, and rests it upon his own shoulders, so that we may feel peace.

Now that's nice, isn't it? Here we see the Weeping Yogi curled into a fetal position, with his face buried in his hands. The statue is fully carved all the way around, even the bottom, where you can see the loincloth, crossed legs, and feet. (See photo below.)

This sculpture has a special "antique bronze" finish. It is first painted with a base coat of black, and then metallic gold, green, and bronze paints are applied, topped with a clear coat finish to protect the color. The result is a subtly sparkling, aged bronze look. Please click on a few of the pictures to see the full sized images.

ITEM CONDITION: PLEASE READ: FULL DISCLOSURE: This statue is in very good condition, with only one small flaw. There is a raised line in the paint, as if some wood filler below has expanded outward. (That's my guess anyway.) It's not that big of a deal, but I thought I should mention it. Please see the close-up picture below. I have tried to photograph the statue accurately. It is a very nice example of the Balinese woodcarvers' art. Thanks for looking, and good luck bidding!

I accept Paypal, money orders, and checks. (Paypal preferred, money order is second choice.) Instant payments by Paypal or money order are processed immediately upon receipt. Paypal e-checks are processed after the payment clears, usually about 3 to 5 days. Personal checks (U.S. only) are also accepted, but take about 10 days to clear before item will be shipped.
