We brought back from our sojourn to Salem last August several containers of Cemetery Soil from the Salem Charter Street Old Burying Point Cemetery very close to the Salem Witch Trails Memorial. This is the cemetery where the oppressors were buried - but we have not forgotten the evil deeds they did. The innocent victims were buried in unmarked graves, many on their family homesteads, and have been lost to knowledge. 1692 was a dark year for the Craft, but magick cannot be erased. Salem celebrates witchcraft and many of the Craft now openly live and work in Salem. The soil does not come off a grave, but from within the cemetery. We raised a circle and sought with words of prayer permission from the Goddess and the Dead. We asked for their blessing and promised that this potent element would not be used to disobey the Rede. It was a solemn ritual of great love.
