WINDSTONE EDITIONS GREY MARBLED BENGAL “CATS CRADLE” TEST PAINT #5

I am experimenting with painting our Windstone Editions stone finish cats in real cat colors.  They look really cute!   Stone finish (aka “gargoyle finish”) pieces have a roughly textured surface that we normally paint beige and then "antique" with darker paint to bring out the stone-like texture.

I have airbrushed this momma cat and kitten pair in the color “Grey Marbled Bengal”.  I have test painted several Cat’s Cradles in this color—however, because their markings were airbrushed on freehand without the use of a stencil, each one looks a little different.

Bengal cats are a GORGEOUS breed of cat produced by hybridizing domestic cats and Asian Leopard cats (a small species of wild cat).  Bengal cats often have distinct, black, rosette-shaped spots with darker centers just like a leopard's markings, but they can also have a pattern of dark spots and stripes that run together to form a "marble" pattern.

This cat and kitten pair are airbrushed in warm medium grey and light grey.  The mother cat has black and dark brownish-grey marbled markings on her sides, and her kitten is marked with tiny black spots.  They have hand painted white details on their faces, and the momma cat has a hand-painted pink nose and toe pads.  They have been antiqued with dark grey to bring out their surface details.

I signed this cat pair on their felt pad and marked them as “Grey Marble Bengal #5 test paint”.  This sculpture has a hang tag and will come with a signed letter of authenticity.

Like all of our test painted pieces, it is possible that we will paint more Cat’s Cradles in a color similar to this as production or limited production in the future, but this cat pair will remain special as they have been individually painted and signed by me, Melody Pena.

This piece measures approximately 2-1/4" tall and 3-1/4" wide.
