condition
cabinet is in good condition, while the artwork
and signatures are generally in excellent condition,
noting almost no rubs, scrapes, dents or scratches,
though with edgewear to base's edges evident, likely
from sliding across a flooring--none of it injurious
to art or signatures; also cabinet doors have been
extended "open" a little too far, affecting the
capbability of the hinges to keep doors closed
notes on Richard "Sparky" Moore
Richard "Sparky" Moore was born in Philadelphia in 1925.
After serving in the navy in WW II, he studied art at the
University of New Mexico. He began his career as a commercial
artist in 1953 illustrating such well-known characters as 'Tarzan',
'Little Beaver', 'Rin Tin Tin', 'The Phantom', 'The Three Stooges',
'Range Rider', 'Korak' and 'Mighty Mightor'. Starting in the 1970's,
Sparky worked for Disney, drawing characters such as Winnie the Pooh
and the Disney Classics comic strip, Disney's 'Zorro', 'Big Bad Wolf',
the 'Scamp' daily newspaper strip, 'Roger Rabbit', the comics
adaptation of 'The Lion King'.
Always a great storyteller, Sparks lets his illustrations "tell the tale".
The simplicity of his subjects is balanced by the intricate features
in his work. His illustrations are infused with detail and humor.
Although pen and ink is his favorite medium, Sparky also dabbles in
watercolor, acrylic and oil. He recently began painting ceramic tiles in
western themes, one being a 7 foot long, 20 tile "cattle drive. Sparky's
talents also include carving and painting rocking horses and other
