Medieval and Renaissance witches were said to be able to scry (or read the past, present and future) in surfaces as tiny as a thumbnail. The standard method was to read into a black bowl filled with water or ink, or to gaze into a mirror of onyx or obsidian. The astrologer to Queen Elizabeth I, the famed Dr. John Dee, was said to scry into a mirror of polished black obsidian. This is the latest in my Witches' Mirror line, which has been very popular here on EBay and in East Coast metaphysical shops for many years now.
This one-of-a-kind necklace is a petite version of my original Witches Mirror necklace. It features a small (3/4" by 1/2") square scrying mirror of gleaming black onyx. It hangs from a sterling triple moon connector, to suggest knowledge of the past, present and future. The centerpiece is flanked with 4mm. faceted black onyx beads, worked on sterling silver wire. The necklace hangs from fine sterling chain, measures 21.5" long and closes with a lobster clasp.
This makes a gorgeous ritual necklace for a High Priestess, but is also meant to be used as an actual tiny scrying mirror.
The necklace was inspired by the compelling portrait of Hecate by the gifted artist Sandra Stanton of Goddessmyths. She has painted remarkable renditions of Goddesses from cultures throughout the world. Her portrait of Hecate is my own personal favorite of all her paintings. Hecate is honored as the Wise Crone, the Protectress and Goddess of witches and priesteses. My sincere thanks to Ms. Stanton for allowing me to use her name.
All metals used are sterling silver, a metal long associated with the Moon and sacred to the Divine Feminine, and all black onyx (sacred to Hecate) is genuine. Honor the Wise Crone and Her precious wisdom in this lovely necklace.
