Description
This is a very interesting and wonderful coloured copper engraving world map of Nicolaes Visscher out of a Dutch Bible.  This map shows the continents North- and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa as well as native inhabitants and wildlife surround the double hemisphere world map. Two celestial spheres are displayed in the Eastern Hemisphere. Two diagrams depicting the Ptolemaic and Copernican theories of the solar system between the hemispheres. The northwest coast of North America is exaggerated and shows California as an peninsula. Parts of Australia and Van Diemen's Land are shown but the north coast of Australia is not depicted. It also includes the western coastline of New Zealand. On the back side you can find a text in Dutch language.

Condition
- very interesting map with beautiful colouring
- the leaf is altogether slightly stained and partly a little folded
- the map is professionally washed and newly glued
- left and right page margin restored, paper to set (missing image supplied in mss. incl. colour)
- the middle fold is complete restored, without picture loss
- some repaired tears at the white page margin
- otherwise a very beautiful copper map

Nicolaes Visscher (1618-1679) war ein niederländischer Kupferstecher, Kartograph und Verleger.

Beschreibung
Sie bieten auf eine sehr interessante und wunderbar kolorierte Kupferstich Karte von Nicolaes Visscher aus einer Holländischen Bibel. Diese Karte in 2 Hemisphären zeigt die Kontinente Nord-und Südamerika, Afrika, Asien und Europa. Sie ist umrahmt mit allegorischen Darstellungen von verschiedenen Völkern, Landschaften und Tieren. Zwei Diagramme oben und unten zeigen die ptolemäische und kopernikanischen Theorien über das Sonnensystem, sie befinden sich zwischen den Hemisphären. Die Nordwestküste Nordamerikas ist korrekt dargestellt und zeigt Kalifornien als Halbinsel. Es werden nur Teile von Australien und Van Diemen's Land dargestellt. Rückseitig befindet sich ein Text in niederländischer Sprache.

- sehr interessante Karte mit schönem Kolorit
- das Blatt ist insgesamt leicht fleckig und teilw. etwas faltig
- die Karte ist fachgerecht gewaschen und neu aufgeleimt
- linker und rechter Blattrand restauriert (Papier angesetzt), Bildverlust nachgezeichnet
- Mittelfalz komplett restauriert, kein Bildverlust
- einige reparierte Risse im Blattrand
- ansonsten eine sehr schöne Karte
