Here is a great new print of a powerful 1916 World War I era poster created to benefit the Serbian Relief Fund.Agroup of frail civilian elderly, women and children huddle together in front of a destroyed house.The Serbian Relief Fund was set to aid the Serbian people who were forced to march into the Albanian mountains for the winter of 1915.700,000 people made the march and thousands died during that winter due to the lack of food and the horrible conditions compounded by the lack of food and they needed relief for years afterwards.
The text reads:“Left Behind In Serbia.Send money for the Women and Children to the Serbian Relief, 70 Fifth Avenue, New York.”
Boardman Robinson (1876-1952) was the artist for the original lithograph that is the basis of this print. Robinson was a well-known artist with a strong passion for the plight of the underprivileged and those in need.
