ORIGINAL World War 1 German/Prussian PICKELHAUBE SPIKE HELMET

What a treat this find was! Stored away for decades and purchased with an eclectic assortment of collectibles.

This auction includes a early 1900's Pickelhaube Spike helmet. The helmet is a hard leather with brass details, including Brass Spike at the top of the helmet, brass band going down the back of the helmet, front edge of visor is rimmed in brass and there is a large brass eagle on the front. The eagle emblem reads MIT GOTT FUR KOENIG UND VATERLAND. There is an FR on the middle of the eagle's chest. Both cockades are present. There is one brass star holding the spike atop the helmet. There is a strap but it appear to short to go around the chin. The emblem is loose on one side....screw is present. Just missing the nut on the inside of the helmet.

The hard leather shell is cracked from age, and the brass has dulled .The front visor brass lining loose from the brim of the helmet.

ADDENDUM:   I am told that this was an officer's WW1 pickelhelm. You can tell from the taller spike, the fish scale chin strap (enlisted were just leather) and the fact that it is an expensive, probably specially ordered tailor made parade helmet for some wealthy Prussian officer. Interesting bit of info from my new friend "Down Under".
