In 1917, The United States Army Cavalry was still a powerful romantic symbol when this poster was used to enlist recruits, though its role in the war was not as great as it had been. However, during the buildup for WWI, the U.S. Army relied heavily on young men from farm backgrounds and at this time agriculture was largely done with horses. This bugler not only calls soldiers to action in the army, he also appeals to the pride of young men in farm communities across America.
