WWII Corpsman. MEDIC BAG, SHOULDER BAG - Seen ACTION!

Old, Vintage U. S. MEDIC BAG/SHOULDER BAG -- World War II Era 

This is an absolutely great opportunity for collectors of military items.  I am unsure of the date, but I believe this medic shoulder bag to be from the World War II era.  It has a medical cross and an identification number stencilled on it.  The experts will know the meaning, I'm sure.  Any help or information as to the significance is always appreciated.

Condition:

• The bag appears to have been heavily used and is NOT military surplus. 
• It is made of green canvas, which shows the signs of age and use. 
• One (1) button is missing.  The other button is loosely attached. 
• There is some dirt on the strap and on the bag.  I have not cleaned it and will leave it to its new owner.  It looks as though it has been through a battle,  judging from its condition. 
• The bag was empty when I purchased it. 
• Inside there is a pouch/divider. 
• The bag does have wear on the pouch and strap.
