Jack L. Treadwell, US Army (DECEASED) -- WWII Congressional Medal of Honor winner for his heroism at the Siegfried Line at Nieder-Wurzbach, Germany, 1945.
Colonel Jack T. Treadwell, former Commander of the 11th LIB in Vietnam, was one of the most decorated soldiers in the US Army. With over 40 war decorations in WWW2 and Vietnam, veteran Jack Treadwell actually accumulated more overall awards than Audie Murphy, who had more in WW2 only. Jack L Treadwell, a career military man who retired in 1973, holds 40 medals and battle honors. He received a Congressional Medal of Honor from Presdent Truman at the White House in 1946. He holds 6 of the Army's highest medals for heroism. He served in WWII and Vietnam.
Colonel Treadwell was born in Alabama and raised at Snyder, where he graduated from High School. When WWII broke out, the Oklahoma farm boy went to war. During WWII he was wounded 4 times, commissioned in the field in Germany and received many decorations. In Vietnam he made over 100 parachute jumps and earned 13 medals! While recovering from wounds he met his wife Maxine, an Army nurse in France. They had 3 daughters, two of whom are married to Army officers.
Jack Lemaster Treadwell: Nieder-Wurzbach, Germany, in the Siegfried Line. While serving as commander of Fox Company, 180th Infantry, 45th Division. Murderous enemy automatic and rifle fire with intermittent artillery bombardments had pinned down his company for hours. Armed with a submachinegun and handgrenades, Captain Treadwell bravely moved forward alone to clear the way for his stalled company, single-handedly capturing 6 enemy pillboxes and 18 prisoners.
