THE REPRODUCTION:
This exquisite, highly detailed work of art is the result of extensive of detailed hand carving.   Using information photographs and measurements for the original sketch, artists carefully carved all the intricate details onto a scaled master about 20% larger than life.  Every effort was made to make the recreation as accurate as possible,  and we are proud of the results.

The ORIGINAL 
In the summer of 1503, Leonardo Da Vinci began work on two paintings, the  MONA LISA and LEDA and the SWAN.   To prepare for the final painting, Leonardo first sketched the face that would become Leda.  This sculptural work was faithfully adapted from the Master's original pen and ink watercolor entitled Study of a Woman's Head.  >From the elegance of the slightly disarrayed hair to the timeless beauty of the tranquil face, this 3-dimenzional carving brings DaVinci's Leda to life.  It is easy to see why  DeVinci (1452-1519), a painter, engineer, musician and scientist, was considered to be the most versatile genius of the Renaissance Period and centuries ahead of his time.

LEDA and the SWAN 
According to legend, Leda, who was the wife of King Tyndareus of Sparta, was seduced by Zeus, King of the Gods, in the shape of a swan.  She bore him two immortal children, Pollux and Helen of Troy.  Helen's famous beauty was of course the 'face that launched a thousand ships' and started the Trojan Wars.
