This is a Walthers Proto 1000 50' NSC Newsprint Box Car, 2-Pack. Central Vermont RR. Car #402188 & 402499 Walthers # 920-237160.
Developed in the 60s by Canada's National Steel Car Company, NSC 50'
Newsprint Box Cars were designed to haul huge rolls of paper produced by
Canadian mills to printing houses across the continent. Features of these
cars included a smooth interior and completely leakproof body to prevent
damage to the paper rolls during transit. Beginning in 1967, almost 3,600
were built through 1971 and most are still in service today.
