Nocturne Op. 27, No. 2
Frederic Chopin
Played By
Theodore Leschetizsky
I recently purchased a large collecteion of Welte rolls and its time to thin out the duplicates. This is a Custom recut roll and is in excellent shape, plays and expresses well. There is some minor shelf wear on the box.
This is a transcription by Richard Tonnesen who is know for his superb transcriptions from the orginal red/green rolls to Licensee format. This is one of the most famous recordings by the great Leschetizsky, who along with Liszt, was the other great piano teacher of the 19th century. He was a pupil of Czerny, and for many years enjoyed a wide reputation as a pianist. His fame, however, chiefly rests upon his establishment (1878) of the Leschetizsky school of pianoforte playing at Vienna, which earned a world-wide reputation for the soundness of its methods of teaching and the number of eminent artists.
