 Description Shipping and payments

Presented for consideration is a Wembley Ware Native Australian Stockman figural Ashtray glazed in a magnificent lustre glaze. This is not just any Native Australian Stockman, this is Albert Namtjira dressed as he was when he appeared before the West Australian government during the early 1950’s. Of particular note is the freeze running around the base front of the ashtray, it is a man on horse back droving a herd of cattle.

It still has an impressed makers mark on the base that was in use from the mid 1950’s to the mid 1960’s. There is also an original foil label of the style that was in use from the mid 1904’s to the mid 1950’s. So this piece must have been produced in the mid 1950’s.

  • Dimensions

The base measures 15 cm (6”) by 16 cm (6.4”) and Albert is 12.5 cm (5”) tall.

  • Condition

This magical piece is in EXCELLENT condition; there are no chips, cracks, stains or repairs and NO crazing. There is some minor wear to alberts Red polka-dot scarf – wear to the scarf is very common as the red paint of the scarf was applied over glaze.

I doubt very much if it has never known the smell of a cigarette and I would expect that it has spent the last fifty years confined to the sheltered life of a display cabinet.
