White Sage is one of the most commonly known of the sages used, which is prized for its strong aromatic properties and one of the most sought after of the smudge sages.  It's hard not to recognize this type in a smudge bundle or loose, with its large, broad, white leaves and its strong, aromatic, pungent smell (especially when it is burning).  This sage has the strongest scent of all sages.
 
White Sage is a shrub, growing wild along the hills  of California that prefers to grow on well drained slopes in full sunlight.  It grows well in semi-arid conditions.
Sage is one of the most sacred herbs among indigenous  peoples.

The clean burning sage is used in the energy cleansing ritual known as smudging (or purification),
which means the smoke would attach itself to the negative energy of the area and
cleanse it so that it becomes positive energy
