This edition of A GUIDE TO THE GRADING OF UNITED STATES COINS represents the second major revision of the book since its first appearance in 1958. We believe this edition represents the ultimate, combining a number of features which will make the book more valuable to the beginning as well as the advanced collector of United States coins. Not the least of these are the pictorial representations of the various grades for the different types and denominations of U. S. coins.

Basically, the B D GRADING SYSTEM which has come to be accepted by thousands of collectors and dealers as the standard or point of reference for grading United States coins remains the same with a few very important revisions and corrections. Please be assured the authors are constantly alert to consider those changes which will make A GUIDE TO THE GRADING OF UNITED STATES COINS the very finest book of its kind in the world.

Again, we would like to emphasize that not all of the details which may be considered in examining and grading a coin have been covered. The B 86 D System is a "working system" for collectors to remember and use easily. The collector will find that certain KEY points in the design of a coin have been selected and specifically pointed out visually and verbally in order to simplify procedures. If these points meet certain standards, then the rest of the coin will usually follow suit.
