William Davey is the son of
the renowned American painter Randall Davey. He was educated at
Princeton, the University of California at Berkeley, New York
University, and the Sorbonne. He is the author of poetry collections,
including Arms, Angels, Epitaphs (Santa Fe, 1938), The Trial of
Pythagoras (Alyscamps Press, 1996), and Bitter Rainbow (Editions
Carrefour Alyscamps, 2000), a short story collection entitled Lost
Adulteries (Carrefour Alyscamps, 1997) and novels, including Dawn Breaks
the Heart (New York, 1939), The Angry Dust (Beijing, 1985) and Splendor
from Darkness, a three thousand page novel about the Second World War.
He has been a high-goal polo player, a combat officer with
Canadian-American Special Forces, a Fellow of the International Lunar
Society, the British Astronomical Society and the Royal Astronomical
Society of Canada. He has also been a duelist, and "the husband of
several beautiful women," stating that "the latter activity is the most
dangerous and makes him think that there is no vice he has not committed
and no virtue he has not avoided." He was Foreign Language Editor of the
American literary magazine The Long Story, and his poems and stories
have been published in England, India, Israel, Canada, the United
States, France, the Philippines, Sweden and China.
