This auction is for an original J & E Stevens Co. "William Tell". The bank was patented on June 23, 1896. The base measures 10 1/2" long. The bank is in excellent condition and functions perfectly with very smooth action. The paint is in extraordinary condition for an item that is over 100 years old. The coin keeper is completely original and present. The bank functions by pulling the coin launcher on the rifle back until it locks. At the same time, the shooter lowers his head as if aiming. When the foot is depressed, the coin is fired at the apple on the boy's head. When the apple is struck, it knocks the apple back causing the boy's arm to raise.
