Summary: You're bidding on a first printing (November, 1976) paperback copy of Woman on the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy. The book cover has minor folds (and one minor tear) and the spine has some creases, as expected. On the rear cover, someone has spilled something on it, but probably decades ago, and it hasn't warped the paper in any way. Overall this is a nice specimen. Great for the collector or the average reader. Rarely seen Cover Art for this novel is by Jerome Podwil, b. 1938, who was well known for producing science fiction book cover art throughout the 1960s and 1970s. GREAT OPENING BID FOR THIS RARE FIND! Description: This is a dystopian novel featuring a woman who's really on the edge of sanity. Does she REALLY see a man from the future in her room, or is she mad? Does she really escape from a mental institution into the year 2137, or is she simply dreaming it? Marge Piercy delves into the mind of 37-year-old Consuelo (Connie) Ramos, a woman who exists on the fringes of life in contemporary New York City. Early in the novel Connie beats up her niece's pimp and is committed - again - to the psychiatric ward in Bellevue Hospital. The novel shifts between the horrible conditions in psychiatric wards and the year 2137, as Connie at first talks to, then time travels with Luciente, a person from that future time. Luciente lives in a non-sexist, communal country where people's survival is ensured based on need, not money. |
