Women of the Way Sculpted By C. Burden

Artist Cindy Burden transfers her faith and personal testimony into each of her sculptures. Through her elegant simplicity, she evokes deep and complex emotions in this Sisterhood she has created. Each one has a story and a scripture that were her inspiration. Every woman, young and old, can relate to this exceptional collection and its messages. It is not about religion; it is about Love, Faith, Belief and Courage. And Cindy Burden includes a healthy portion of each in Women of the Way.

I’ll never forget the day I heard that my best friend, Debbie, had a brain tumor and was given only two years to live. Debbie was 37 years old with three children. We went into major denial, followed by prayer, prayer and more prayer.

She died two years later. She was 39. I was devastated. The Joyous Reunion piece happened in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep, tossing and turning and thinking of my friend. I often went out to my garage (where I sculpted then) to work on sleepless nights. I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do, just something.

I remember my heart beating faster as the inspiration came on me and my hands worked quickly. IN about an hour, I stepped back to look at the completed piece – Joyous Reunion – and it was as if the Lord was reminding me that we will meet again, Debbie and I, and we will fly together and embrace. Oh I can’t wait.
