CABIN HILLSIDE PAPYRUS BLACK LOTTIE2 TEMPLATE

Ozarks Lake Cabin Primitives

Large Antique Wooden Shaker Picket Fence Slat Basket

Antique Shaker Picket-Fence basket from an old farm cabin at Lake of the Ozarks near the early Ozark settlement town of Warsaw, Missouri, where many antiques are found untouched for decades. Now nestled along Lake of the Ozarks; The old farms were once homes of the early pioneers and settlers before the lake was introduced for hydroelectric power. Large; Heavy basket Made here in the Ozarks long long ago from heavy wooden virgin forest heartwood pine; Solid plank bottom, binding, and slats. Wires and nails were used for binding that have become completely darkened with surface oxidation over time - dark and rustic, but, not rusting similar to antique tin ware. Has a dark gorgeous patina all over with loads of age character from extreme old age. Each nail has a big flat irregular head and as they were too long - the maker bent each nail carefully over onto the inside of the wood binding rail around the top (at the time) in a careful attractive pattern. The wires secure all four corners to the binding; And, they were carefully bent down inside of the wood binding rail when fashioned - just like the nails. Wonderful all original heirloom condition; There are a few tiny worm holes under one bottom corner as pictured - nothing bad. No missing or repaired parts; One slat appears to have two nails replaced at the bottom, but, you will never notice. Basket is firm and solid with no cracks and not rickety, not wobbly, no looseness whatsoever - very nice! Staves and bottom have gently ground down and worn smooth from over 100 years of service. Would have been used around the farm home for peaches, apples, pears, or other fruit gathering. Bidding begins low for fairness; Not imported, and not a reproduction piece. Measures 15 ¾ inches on the sides from top to bottom, by 14 ¼ inches across the top from side to side (not corner to corner), and 10 inches across the bottom from side to side (not corner to corner). Weights nearly 5 pounds. Has a very interesting squat shape. Beautiful; Great Condition; Time worn, aged finish that is smooth to the touch and worn slick smooth around the big basket's edges. (see pictures very nice!). It is rare to find these old pieces in such great condition. It is obvious that this was always cared for and has not been weathered of left outside. No signs of heavy use or abuse. Super Great heirloom condition; No holes, No breaks, No chunks missing, No gouges, No dry rot, No soft wood, No stains, Has never been used as a waste or trash can. No damages whatsoever other than gentle age ware. Not weak, not brittle, Has never been wet, and Very tight with no looseness; Has not been near insects or rodents and has no stains and no odors. How many pieces do you find like these every day…see detailed photographs below - very nice. If you collect only the best like I do you will not want to miss out on this. Would look very rustic on a shelf with your Americana hickory or oak baskets, Nantucket, egg gathering or buttocks baskets, or cotton picking baskets collection; Or, on top of a pie safe or step back cabinet with your copper mold or cookie cutter and baking collectibles. You can just imagine it on the pantry shelves or on your Early American splay leg kitchen table with your cream can, maple sugar bucket, butter mold, or wooden firkin collection. Would make a lovely addition to your primitive or folk art, Shaker, Mission, Arts and Crafts, or Amish farmhouse décor. It is the quality type that you just do not find anymore; would make an amazing holiday or Christmas gift. Please ask any questions before bidding as items are not returnable. Will be packaged in a large box with great care and will not arrive broken. Thanks. see pictures very nice, also, please see my other auctions.
