This
is a very tasty amp for anyone seeking the best blackface
tone, the dependability of brand new electronics, and the
superior tone and vibe of four decades old Fender cabinetry
from the glory years, with an ideal combination of speakers.
The Pat's Guitars "VoodooVerb" Upgraded
Fender '65 Twin Reverb Reissue is ONLY THE
BEST way to get the most blackface value from your
shrinking American dollar.
Leo
Fender's glorious AB763 circuit, found on the best classic
"Blackface" era amps from the 1960's, is the
premier way to hear sparkling Fender single coil tone to full
advantage, and the classic Fender design also brings out
fabulous tone and clarity from humbuckers, P90's and other
pickups as well. This circuit was used on great smaller amps
like the Deluxe Reverb and Pro Reverb, but the flagship of
the family was the Twin Reverb. This potent 2 x 12"
combo amplifier boasts a potent 85 watts due to a quartet of
6L6 tubes and beefy transformers. Two channels, both with
bright switches, and one with onboard tremolo and reverb. The
Twin Reverb gives you the needed power for loud music in
bigger venues, with loads of clean headroom, but the TR still
sounds great at more modest volume settings, and it matches
up well with all sorts of pedals.
It
is no wonder that the amp has proven to be a timeless best
seller, and decent examples of the old hand-wired originals
command a very high (and rapidly escalating) price in today's
collector-driven market. It is also no wonder that Fender's
modern reissue of the AB763 '65 Twin is an attractive,
dependable, and more affordable alternative to buying the
high-priced vintage gear. Unfortunately, the reissue amps
don't have quite the same sound and vibe, with their cheaper
pressed wood cabinets, tinny modern reverb pans, and Italian
copies of the original Jensen ceramic speakers.
This
"VoodooVerb" upgraded amp marries
together the best of old and new. You get an new and unused
Fender '65 Twin Reissue chassis, complete with the
manufacturer's OEM compliment of fine Sovtek-made Fender
Groove Tubes, and the Reissue footswitch. But this brand new
complete set of Fender electronics has been transplanted into
a beautiful and very near mint vintage
genuine Fender Twin Reverb cabinet, built in 1969.
The vintage cabinet includes the original '69
Accutronics spring reverb pan, bag, and cable, the
original 1969 Twin Reverb tube chart, the
original Fender "Patent Pending" tilt-back
legs with late '60's "F" Logo, the original
60's Fender chrome badge with "tail" --- everything
about the cabinet is original from the year
of Woodstock, Richard Nixon's inauguration, and the first
moon landing. These old Fullerton era cabinets were built
with finger-jointed craftsmanship and real wood,
and that quality of construction pays back dividends in the superior
tone the hand-made enclosures provide, as well as
the look and feel of vintage quality and 60's
"mojo."
The
speakers installed here are not the cheap Italian made Jensen
ceramic re-issues. Instead you get one British Celestion and
one American-made Weber VST, matched to balance with one
another and bring out the best in the AB763 circuit. Ted
Weber's "Chicago 12" is an 80 watt speaker
that is built to bring back the sound of the real
Chicago-made vintage Jensens. It features a 60 ounce ceramic
magnet and a 2 inch coil coil on a ribbed cone. It is built
to sound warm with a nice crunch when pushed. The Celestion
G12 Modern Lead 70 is a classic design familiar from
the era of Marshall's JCM 800, with the ability to handle
higher power and louder music. Together, the Celestion and
the Weber have great warmth and definition,
and the ability to keep up when the amp is "dimed"
at high volume. The have a smooth,
balanced tone that brings out the best in the Twin
Reverb's clean and chimey character, with none of the overly
bright "icepick-through-the-head" character that
the Twins sometimes get when matched with the wrong speakers.
The
vintage spring reverb pan sounds lush and liquid,
instead of harsh and "boingy." And it is always
nice to have the modern safety and reliability
that comes with grounded power, all fresh components on the
circuit board and brand new matched and biased tubes, and a
factory fresh footswitch to control the tremolo and reverb.
I
must emphasize that this is an auction for the resale
of a previously owned (but unused) Fender amp with changes
and upgrades. I am sure that the good people
of Fender Musical Instruments would want you to know that
this amp does not come with a warranty from Fender, since it
is previously-owned (although unused) by me, and since has
been optimized after leaving the factory with an amazing set
of upgrades. using genuine Fender 1960's
vintage parts, along with high-end speakers from Weber VST
and Celestion.
Now
-if you want- you can buy an all-stock Fender Reissue in the
factory particle board enclosure at some big corporate
retailer, and if you do, you can expect to shell out about
$1300. Or you can have this one, with the very same
electronics, but with much finer speakers, and with
the hand-crafted real vintage Fullerton-era Fender
cabinetry, for a price to be determined by the bidders (or by
the one person wise enough to use the Buy-It-Now option,
while it lasts). This amp looks and sounds so much
better, and you'll own something that is not
like thousands of others, and which won't
depreciate drastically beginning the very minute after you've
paid for it. So you tell me: what's the better deal for the
price?

Hello again,
everyone. By popular demand (well, actually just one guy asked....),
I am including a set of five photos below of the "VoodooVerb" '65 Twin Reverb Reissue's
circuitry. The circuitry on this chassis has the same PCB construction as all
of Twin Reverb Reissue amplifiers built by Fender since the Reissue model was introduced in 1992.
Have a look, and please continue to let me know if there are any questions.-
