The "X-ray" Effect
Some quickly experimented with the NightShot feature in sunlight and discovered that if an infrared transmitting filter (which passes only infrared light and blocks all visible light) was placed on the camcorder and NightShot was turned on, the camcorder recorded pure infrared images during the daytime. Because infrared light passes through certain clothing fabrics, it was quickly discovered that the NightShot cameras had certain "X-ray" like properties.

 


Of course you will not see through all clothing. Cottons x-ray poorly and Jeans will not x-ray at all. Synthetic materials are ideal. Typically THIN synthetics such as Polyester, Nylon, Rayon, Silk, etc., and some thin Cottons....the thinner and tighter (form-fitting) the better. Different weaves in the material will x-ray different. Of course a looser woven material will x-ray the best. Dark color materials tend to x-ray better than lighter ones because dark colors absorb light, whereas light colors reflect the light. Adequate lighting is also a factor. Typically ir filters are used during the warmer months when people have on thin clothing. Although indoor events, malls, clubs, parties, etc. are great for filming year round.
