Xiangqi is the Chinese version of chess. It is the most played board game in the world (yes, even more than our beloved western 'chess'), and it is so old that its actual origins are lost in antiquity. Some believe that the early Chinese chess pre-dates the Persian chess from which our western chess has evolved.

Beautiful Wood Finished Board

The board is of a solid pressed wood, measuring 13 1/4 by 11 1/2 inches. The playing surface shows a natural, polished wood grain, with black lines defining the playing area. It sits elegantly above the table surface, with a drawer to hold the pieces when not in play.

The bottom of the board is covered in a felt-like flocking, to protect the table surface.

The board and pieces weigh 4 1/4 pounds, in their original cardboard box.

Solid Plastic Pieces

The pieces are of hard, solid plastic, approximately 1 1/8 inches in diameter and 3/8 inch thick. They have their Chinese characters very clearly grooved into each piece, and painted red and black.

Rule Booklet in English

The rule book is included, giving the official rules of xiangqi in clear and concise English, with diagrams.
